Trojans escape with a victory

1–2 minutes

It certainly wasn’t pretty. But the Trojans leave Tempe and Sun Devil Stadium with their win streak and number 1 ranking intact.

Up next, the Arizona Wildcats….in other words, a semi-bye.

  1. officiating in that game? here are just some of the horrible calls….

1.) The Reggie Bush catch on the 11-yard line that was called back?

2.) LenDale White penalty for diving into the end zone?

3.) Dwayne Jarrett lost the ball but then regained possesion by pinning it against his leg as he went down

4.) Buckwheat Burgess was not forced out of bounds. Keith Rivers was five yards away

  2. Let’s not forget about the consistent late hits on the sidelines by ASU, and the pulling off of SC guys’ helmets AFTER the play by ASU–all day long.

It’s obvious, EVERYONE, refs included, is gunning for SC and an end to the streak. And you know what? It makes every minute of the streak that much sweeter.

I now understand what it must have been to be a UCLA fan during the Wooden era, when everyone in the game is doing everything possible (including creating ludicrous “taunting for diving across the pylons” rules, aimed at the Trojans (you think that rule was MAYBE sold by pointing to Reggie Bush’s flip into the end zone vs. UCLA last year)?

The streak lives on, shitty referees and all.

And kudos to ASU for playing a tough game….my heart needed the test.

  3. I’ll never forget when the Arizona basketball team played at ASU the night that Steve Kerr learned his father was murdered (87 or 88). Kerr played heroically despite the taunts from the ASU student section about his dad being dead. (This is 100% true.) Kerr, of course, was a champion and shot the lights out.

The school has a proud tradition of classlessness, and I was relieved the Trojans didn’t lose to a group so unworthy.

    Fight on!

  4. 5.) The Desmond Reed facemask that went uncalled.
