Thomas Williams to go under the knife

Linebacker Thomas Williams is scheduled to have arthroscopic knee surgery today, but said he intends to return for the UCLA game.

He was injured in the Cal game while filling in for middle linebacker Oscar Lua.

Lua says his knee still felt “shaky”, but Carroll intends to play him if healthy (or probably if he gets a healthy shot of cortizone like last game).

In any case, we don’t think Coach Carroll has a problem “resorting” to the 2005 class of bad-ass linebackers after the performances of two in particular: Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing.

In the “glad we don’t have a crappy sportswriter for a coach” department, Bill Plaschke thinks Rey Maualuga should’ve been benched as a disciplinary measure.
