USC legend, Anthony Davis, will undergo a surgery to reduce the size of his stomach to combat his obesity this Saturday at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA.
The procedure creates a small pouch from the top part of his stomach, restricting the amount of food he can eat. By the summer, with his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, Davis hopes to be much closer to his playing weight of 175.
Brian Wilson’s daughter, a former patient of the procedure, will emcee a live webcast to popularize the event to others who are critically obese.
The operation runs a 2% mortality risk; Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weiss had the operation in 2002 and suffered excessive bleeding and septic shock (among other complications), was in a coma for two weeks after the surgery and given last rites by a priest.
