
Plagued by a nagging ankle injury all of last year, Colbert still started and was able to compete but fell way short of his outstanding rookie season.
“He’s a different player already,” said quarterback Jake Delhomme. “You can just see the way he runs his routes. He has explosion. He has separation. The kid was injured (last year), but he never complained. He never said anything. He took the high road.”
Keary Colbert cuts across the middle and makes a nice grab in traffic. A few plays later, he hauls in another reception running a different route. Then he catches another pass. Then another. And pretty soon you start to notice how much he looks like the promising rookie of two seasons ago.
“Anybody can make a play here and there, today or tomorrow,” Colbert said. “But it’s really hard to do it consistently. That’s the one thing I try to focus on.”
