Ouch… Trojans come up short

So close to a comeback. Could USC have run it down their throats from the 4? Could Booty have rolled out and looked at more than one option?

We are sure the haters will have a field day with another Booty pass batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Amazingly though, the Trojans shouldn’t have even been in a place to tie to begin with. The Beavers could have blown the Trojans out (USC turned the ball over 4 times).

The consolation from the failed 2 pt conversion was that could anyone stand the stress any longer?

Down 23 pts on the road, you gotta admire the Trojans ability to fight.

FIGHT ON…

  1. hahahahahahahahahahahahah…. i knew it….. USC SUCKS!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahahahahahaha..

  2. Our play calling is WAY too conservative. We should have aired it our earlier. And no, Booty hasn’t learned how to put touch on the ball and float it to a guy who’s 6’5″. Let Jarrett go up and get it. Also, Lua looks like a good fit for our D. He makes just as many plays and plays “mature”. Rey is still special….just not yet.

  3. I dont care what anyone says, including the coaches,Booty telegraphs his passes….every….single…time….he…drops….back.
I’m not an expert, so I’m not going to say that he does not go thru his progressions. Maybe he has freakish peripheral vision and is able to do it without turning his head…at all. It does not *appear* to me that he does go thru his progressions. When he drops back, again…every time, his head is locked in one direction, the direction to which he ultimately throws the ball. This is *exactly* why the OSU D-back was able to step in fron to of Jarrett in the endzone in the 1st qtr. It seems he *never* “looks off” a receiver.

Oh…by the way…he also telegraphs the snap. When the ball is about to be snapped, he crouches down an additional 6 inches or so.

I’m not calling for his head….but it seems that telegraphing your passes and staring down the receiver that you’re gonna throw to are fundamental flaws that need to be corrected….and fast.

  4. Couple Things:

    1) Play Calling – Agreed, way too conservative. I don’t know what Lane Kiffin is doing up there in the booth, but it isn’t working. The only time USC every moves the ball well is when it is being agressive (and you can see that every time they are up against the clock or down by a bunch of points).

    2) Running the Ball/Turnovers – What the hell is with Running Back U? Washington dropped the ball on plays he didn’t even get hit hard on. Moody had been having trouble before. But even more distressing than turning over the ball is not getting the other team to do so. The past couple years, we have been a takeaway team, NOW we are giving it away like we don’t even want the ball.

Sidenote: I was happy to see more pressure on the QB, but USC should have gotten multiple INTs against a poor QB like Matt Moore. Terrible showing by USC all around.

    3) 2-pt Conversion – I saw the fade to DJ coming. That play had been called multiple times in the redzone this year. Not a bad call usually, but I think something is missing from DJ this year, don’t ask me what. He didn’t fight for the ball on that first INT by Booty, when I felt he could have at least broken it up. He wasn’t really playing that well the whole day. I wish we would have gone to Steve Smith. Just like on the TD, I think we could have gotten the ball to him on a slant or out pattern, especially due to the fact that he was playing very well today and probably the only bright spot of the day.

  5. “…with hard work from opening kickoff to the final whistle on both sides of the ball tomorrow, and it should go without saying, a solid road win against the Beavers.”

OH WHAT??? LOOKS LIKE THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN DID IT!! HAHAHA

  6. Booty was great. The tipped ball thing is a percentage thing that’s gonna happen to him more than Leinart and Palmer because he’s not as tall and he throws lower. Factor it in. He’s got a great arm and great touch on those long balls. With a shorter QB, you gotta have better passing lanes in the blocking scheme. Wasn’t that the only tipped ball all day anyway?

The pivotal play was the intercepted pass intended for Jarrett. I can’t fault Booty for that one either. Jarrett usually puts his hands way out, whether it’s in front of a defender, over a defender’s head, or up in the air to be super tall on a corner route. He had his hands glued to his stomach and shrunk his target from what it usually is. Worst case if he has his hands out is an incomplete pass. I kinda wonder if his shoulder isn’t still bothering him a lot. He’s not taking the ball away from the sky like he used to.

We’ve still got a pretty good team. OSU played out of their heads, an almost perfect game. Pete needs to take back the defense. Someone had our playbook in the OSU booth. And oh how I wish that LenDale would have stayed in school… Selfish me.

  7. Here come all the second-guessers and the laughably pathetic anti-Trojan dregs who waste the time posting here. Losers.

Too many mistakes. A young team. Lots of injuries. I think people forget that the three top receivers have all been injured this year, that we’ve lost three fullbacks and have nobody out of the backfield who can catch a pass. No wonder Smith and Jarrett were doubled and tripled. Last year, teams had to double on Reggie out of the backfield. Today, Washington, et all were left alone on passing plays. Count the number of passes to RBs this year and you won’t get very far. All that doesn’t make JDB’s job very easy.

The team showed a lot of guts and talent coming back. Many of us expected one or two (or maybe three) losses this year. Here’s hoping they can learn and keep it to one even though the toughest part of the schedule is about to hit.

  8. ouch we got one in the chin, down but not out!
    fight on!

  9. I am not sure if we should make excuses about the health of our guys for such a loss. The “healthy” Chauncey blew it and so did the “leader” JDB.

I think this loss is probably better than losing the last game of the season and dropping from #3 or #2 to #5 and getting out of contention so late. This loss will give USC a good wake up call (not sure what can happen between now and the next Saturday) and also give them a chance to come back and move up the rankings.

But the way they played today and the last couple of games, it does not look like USC can handle Oregon, Cal, ND and ucla back-to-back-to-back.

  10. I am sure our boys will be egged on by our band and song girls to amazing victories to come.

  11. I love the excuses being rolled out to cover up for an embarassing performance against a team they should’ve beat. Welcome to back to the land of the mortals.

  12. Well, losing that game was a tough one. But at least we’ll stay in the top 10 of the BCS, unlike our neighbours UCLA, who LOST 4 games now. The only “BOWL” they’ll go to is one with Cheerios in it. *lol*

    Fight on SC!

  13. interesting Dave, I don’t know who you root for but if SC is now “back” with the mortals i’ll take where we have been instead of being in the toilet like most other pac 10 teams over the past few years.

Take a look across town and watch a program self destruct because they can’t call a good game or blame the players for bad games. I may nt be happy with how we have looked in some of our games games this season but its a hell of a lot better that what we’ve seen from others lately.

I’ll take it any day of the week.

  14. NO EXCUSES!! WE DIDN’T HAVE OUR TOP RUNNING BACK OR ONE OF OUR BEST RECEIVERS AND WE STILL BEAT YOU!! WHAT NOW?? DONT HATE, COME ON NOW….JUS BE GRACIOUS LOSERS =)

  15. “OH WHAT??? LOOKS LIKE THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN DID IT!! HAHAHA”

Kyran — do you even know how to read?

T-wire paid OSU respect all week leading up to the game, saying USC would need solid play on both sides of the ball to win; and just like they predicted, it didn’t happen, and the Trojans lost.

Doesn’t everybody love how this Kyran douche (what kind of shitty name is Kyran?) gloats (in ALL CAPS like a mongoloid no less)…but then cries about being “gracious losers”.

Kyran — you’re a joke, your team is a joke. You’ll still be celebrating this victory when we’re hoisting our next national title.

Savor the flavor, it won’t last long.

  16. “Savor the flavor, it won’t last long.”

why do you say that? With a couple of bounces here or there, this could have very easily have been USC’s FOURTH CONSECUTIVE LOSS!! So what makes you think this won’t last long? If SC can’t put away Washington, Washington St., Arizona St., or Oregon St., what makes you think they can handle the likes of Cal or ND??

I’m not even hating, I’m just being real…you trojan fans are hilarious

  17. Gracious losers? Is it possible that there is a SC fan with humility? I don’t hate SC, but you have to realize that SC over the past few seasons has entered into the same echelon as Notre Dame in terms of hate. No one likes a team that wins all the time. And no one likes a team that wins and is perceived to have a dirty program. So suck it up. You gotta take the good with the bad.

  18. trojans need to get a grip on themselves. Your teams is the Yankees of college football, the evil empire with what are perceived (fairly or not) as unfair advantages. Either way, EVERYONE hates the Yankees except their fans,a portion of whom are obnoxious and snide, giving all the rest a bad name.
How many people do you think celebrated when the Vince Young show schooled you guys last year? Many, many college football fans near and far.
I’m sure, though, that in a year or two Carroll will have the soulless juggernaut of SC crushing inferior programs once again and Trojans will be able to gloat all they want to again, and everyone will continue hating USC. In the meantime, enjoy being the underdog even if it’s only for a little while. Maybe it’ll teach you some humility.

  19. TROJ STARTED SOMEWHAT FLAT…2 T.O. WERE JUST DROPPED BALLS… FOCUS WAS MISSING IST HALF…THE TEAM IS VERY PREDICTABLE AND THAT MUST STOP..WASHINGTON HAD NO PROB RUNNING IN IST XTRA PTS, WHY NOT AGAIN?? WHEN DEF HAS HANDS UP AND FILLS LANES, BOOTY IS TOAST…AFTER ALL THAT, THE COMEBACK WAS GREAT–WE CAN BE EXPLOSIVE WHEN IN A “MUST WIN” MODE..BOOTY HAD 406 YDS-5TH BEST IN USC HISTORY–WE MUST GET OUR RUN GAME BACK AND START KICKIN BUTT OR THE LAST 4 GAMES WILL BE A HUGE WIPEOUT…………….

  20. Hate on, losers. We can take it.

When we’re beat, fans storm the field, grown men cry, and it dominates the front page of the sports news. Every time.

  21. Wow, thats so cool that you dedicated your WHOLE post to lil ol me…and even named yourself after me =) And yes, I can read…thats why I copied and pasted that quote….should go without saying?? a solid road win against the beavers?? whats so hard to read bout that? you obviously thought you were going to win, and you didn’t. At least I have the guts to put my own name. But anyway, its funny that you STILL think you will have the national title again? C’mon now, u aint gonna be hoisting sh*t in the air…dont embarass yourselves =) roc (AND ESPN) was right…you guys were living on borrowed time, it SHOULD have been your 4th loss in a row.

  22. “Soulless juggernaut” (whatever THAT means) jd, you need to get a grip on YOURself. Your hatin’ on USC isn’t going to make them go away. Since 2003, USC has lost 3 games by a combined total of 8 points. The fact that you and “dave/steve” can’t deal with USC winning lots of games is understandable, especially if your teams (whoever they are) perenially suck. Yes, a USC team is just as capable of losing as any other college football team on a given Saturday, but we’re also capable of rolling over lots of “inferior competition” like Auburn, Iowa, Michigan, Oklahoma, etc., too. USC fans are no more or less prideful than fans of any other school. Maybe you should spend more time trying to make your team(s) better and less time convincing yourself that”everyone” hates USC… that ludicrous pronouncement speaks volumes about you and says nothing about USC.
