Just when we think we’ve happened upon the best O.J. news of the day, we see this.

Instead of waiting for the late signing period in April, the nation’s top-ranked basketball player says he signed his binding national letter-of-intent Wednesday with the University of Southern California.

“It’s the perfect situation,” Mayo said. “After (football) players like Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, the school is ready for a player of my caliber.”

    This is the best line (unless you’re a Bruin) from the linked article:

    “Los Angeles is a great basketball city and needs a (college) powerhouse,” Mayo says.

    I love this kid. He says “yes sir” and “no sir” a lot in interviews. Athletes need more of that.

    But, he’s also admitted to being a one and done college player and intends on moving right on to the NBA. SC basketball fans need less of that.

    Let’s hope he stays!
