Many TrojanWire readers & contributors have been begging us to blast Kiffin, and let us just say false starts that put the offense in 3rd &12’s don’t allow a coordinator to play-call out of it.

But… adjustments have been the hallmark of the Pete Carrol era, and this edit to Wikipedia is, well, just too funny:

Best known for botching USC’s 2006 season with predictable play-calling and general failure to adjust to opposing team defensive strategies.

Man, we really got some whiney, self-entitled brats for fans. At least as commenters on these internet sites.

Gotta still have humor! I want to clarify that this Kiffin criticism is not just some knee-jerk reaction to a tough loss. Generally, play-calling has not been creative all year.

Specific to the UCLA game: If the O-line is being overwhelmed by an intense pass-rush, then I would expect the play-calling to counter it. Every time Booty went to a 7 step drop he was getting pressured. Any knucklehead would know to counter that pass rush with draw plays, quick slants (to two of the best WRs in the game), screen plays, and try rolling Booty out for some pass plays. I didn’t see much of any of this! If all of those strategies don’t work, then more kudos to the opposing defense. But not even attempting these common tactics is quite puzzling to me. ????

I don’t mind losing if all offensive tactics were attempted and foiled. Just disappointed because it appears the Offenses’ worst enemy last week was an ineffective offensive strategist and themselves (penalties).

gvitty hit the nail on the head. What obvious adjustments were made at halftime? Try none! Why didn’t Booty scramble ala Pat Cowan to keep the defense honest? UCLA was overpersuing, how about a couple of screen passes Kiffin?
