Ted Ginn is skipping his senior season to head to the NFL, per this ESPN story.
I can’t say it’s a big surprise. He’s a projected first rounder and there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the OSU offense for next season, so why stay? I think he could have continued to improve as a receiver and raised his draft stock a bit, but there was the real possibility that he could hurt his stock by being part of a stagnant offense, not to mention the ever-present possibility of injury. He likely made a good choice.
Now we await Antonio Pittman’s decision. As has been mentioned, he’s announcing at his high school, which seens a strange place to announce that you’re staying at Ohio State for another year. So he’s almost certainly gone as well. That offense is going to have to replace a ton of talent.
Update: The above ESPN article has been updated with the news that Pittman’s officially gone as well. This means that next year, offensive starters returning consist of three linemen (Kirk Barton, Alex Boone, Steve Rehring), a tight end (Rory Nicol), and a #3 receiver (Brian Robiskie). I am very excited and not at all concerned about our offense next season. I am also a liar.
