There has been a fair amount of coverage on coaches (and governors!) sending text messages to recruits.
The NCAA has viewed text messages as “letters” in years past (which means ‘mail’ all ya want!), but an NCAA panel has recommended that text messages to recruits be banned. If the recommendation is enacted, letters would be confined to email, faxes, and the good ol’ USPS.
At issue is not just the huge advantage Urban Meyer has (since he can text ambidextrously), but also the intrusion into recruits lives and the financial costs incurred by some high school students receiving hundreds of messages.
