Officially, linebacker Josh Tatum needed a fresh start and never got started in the year he spent at USC, which caused him to transfer last week. Pete Carroll believed he needed a new chance and opportunity.
We also heard there were off-field issues that contributed to the decision, including academics and some other minor incidents that we don’t want to go into. Nothing huge but they all added up. In other words, Tatum’s departure was probably approved or encouraged, much like defensive tackle Walker Lee Ashley’s in December. It wasn’t merely a playing-time transfer like Antwine Perez.
Tatum wants to transfer to Miami but nothing’s been decided yet.
