Each and every Monday during the football season, the University of Southern California hosts a “Monday Morning Quarterback” session where alumni donors can meet behind closed doors with head coach Pete Carroll to review game film and ask their questions about what’s happening with the team.
Back during the Paul Hackett-era, the MMQB lunches fit easily into the campus’ Town and Gown dining facility, which regularly hosts formal events in University Park.
But after five consecutive Pac Ten Championship seasons, the Pete Carroll lunches have outgrown their facilities. Town and Gown can only hold a few hundred people who magically can take three hours off of work each Monday between September and December.
In order to accommodate the scores of Los Angelenos who apparently lack full employment yet can afford a USC education, the Carroll lunches had to be moved to the Galen Center basketball arena–with, of course, a nice $10-per-lunch price hike. If USC can string together another five years like the last, by 2012, they’ll have to move these events to the Coliseum!
