Courtesy of USC Sports Information Director Tim Tessalone, here are Pete Carroll’s thoughts as USC takes a day off Sunday before heading into regular game-week preparation Monday.
“We’re off the rest of the day and tomorrow, then back on
Monday. We’ll do a little extra work on Monday. We’re into game
week then. We’ll finalize the game plan now. It’s been a fantastic
camp, highly competitive. We’re ready to play football.
“Stafon (Johnson) had a great camp. He’s been very serious about
everything. He still has a lot to improve on, but he’s done
well. (C.J.) Gable was back today. It was great to see him out
there. Chauncey (Washington) is way better. His shoulder has shown great
improvement. He’s very optimistic. He doesn’t have any swelling any
more. (Patrick) Turner had some back spasms today, but he’ll be okay. We’re
getting back into good shape. We should be strong for the opener.
“We’ll play a lot of guys in the opener. (Josh) Pinkard has been so
effective at cornerback. I’ve always thought he’s an incredible
athlete with great speed. He seems more dominant at corner than safety.
“(John David) Booty seems more confident this year.”
