With the announcement by Pete Carroll Sunday that USC freshman running back Broderick Green will have surgery Tuesday on the stress fracture in his foot, that makes two USC freshman backs out almost certainly for the season.

He joins fullback Jordan Campbell from Norco who said after USC’s Saturday opener against Idaho that he will take a medical redshirt to let the reinjury to his shoulder heal. Campbell had banged it up again the week before last in full speed work without shoulder pads.

“It’s my choice,” Campbell said. “I think I’m not going to take any chances with it and take the medical redshirt” so there’s time for it to heal.

The two depart in the week that a third freshman running back, Marc Tyler, is expected to join the team after getting medical clearance for the healing process of the screws in his surgically repaired ankle and foot.
