Trojans Don’t Know How to Lose…Coin Toss

Yesterday I wondered aloud why USC kicked the ball off to Nebraska at theb eginning of both halves of their game in Lincoln.  Today we have an explanation.

USC had won 19 consecutive coin tosses going into Lincoln, meaning that none of the players on the field ever had to select anything other than kicking the ball off to begin the game; Matt Leinart was the last USC captain to face a loss at the coin toss. So the Trojan captains went with their instinct and elected to kick off at the beginning of the game–only they hadn’t won the toss!

I guess you can honestly say that this year’s Trojans don’t know how to lose.  Let’s hope that attitude carries over onto the field as we begin Pac Ten play this weekend against the Washington State Cougars!
