From OCVarsity.com:

Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley became the first junior honored as the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year today.

"This is so amazing," Barkley said.

Barkley, who has not committed to a college but is considered the top junior prospect in the nation, was formally announced as the winner this morning during an assembly at Mater Dei.

"It definitely humbled me," Barkley said. "I’m not really nervous or feel any pressures to live up to all this stuff because I’m not going to change anything about me.

"I’m just going to keep doing what I do and come back next year (and) hopefully win a championship."

Congrats to Matt.  On a side note, based on this picture of Matt’s teammates, looks like the Mater Dei/USC pipeline is as strong as ever.
