You think only players get recruited at the Senior Bowl? Think again. Glenn Guilbeau of the Gannett News Service is reporting that Ed Orgeron has been hired as the new defensive line coach to the New Orleans Saints.

“He comes very well recommended from a lot of people,” Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said.

Orgeron, USC’s former recruiting coordinator and D-line coach helped form the likes of Sedrick Ellis, Lawrence Jackson and Keith Rivers into the super-star players they are today.

Ed, a Louisiana native, only has fond memories and high-hopes for his new team:

“I remember listening to the first Saints game (in 1967) in the backyard,” said Orgeron, who was 6 years old at the time. “I’m very excited. This means a lot to me. It’s an outstanding opportunity. I’m going back home. And I’m looking forward to coaching the defensive line in the NFL. The Saints run a 4-3, and I’m very familiar with that. I want to help the Saints get to the Super Bowl.”

  1. Was hoping coach “O” would come back to SC, but very few “formers” ever do unless you coached in Idaho.
