After a sloppy start USC went on to hand Washington their worst home loss this season, beating the Huskies 73-59. OJ Mayo lead the team again, scoring 20 in the first half. He finished with a whopping 29 points, that included three 3-pointers, 3 rebounds and 4 steals. With these 29, Mayo surpasses Clifford T. Robinson for fourth on the Trojans’ freshman score record. “Jerry” Davon Jefferson brought his A-game to the table, racking up 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and a steal. Dwight Lewis and Taj Gibson followed up with 9 and 8 points respectively, while Angelo Johnson scored 5. It was Taj Gibson and a still-not-100-percent Daniel Hackett that led the team in rebounds with six a piece, with Gibson filling an especially defensive role, adding on 4 blocked shots for the night.

The Trojans have a bad habit of getting out-rebounded both offensively and defensively by their opponents. Last night was no different. USC had another poor night on the rebound, only 25 to Washington’s 38. Offensive rebounds were no different, with the Huskies’ 19 to the Trojans 4 (*Washington leads the Pac-10 in off-reb). But you don’t need to pick up the extra rebounds when you shoot 59.1% from the field and hold your opponent to 36.1%.

The game was tied at 38 early in the second half, but the Trojans blasted off with a 19-0 run to make it 57-38, a hole the Huskies could not climb out of.
