For whatever reason, maybe you weren’t so happy with the Trojans 2008 recruiting class. Maybe it lacked the number one over-all recruit, or the flashy running back, or the ridiculous stand-up-in-your-seat every-down playmaker (I’m sure Brice Butler would beg to differ). But worry not troubled Trojan, you don’t have to wait until next year for more good news. USC’s 2009 recruits are already shaping up to be a top-tier bunch. High School junior Chris Metcalf, who promises to be a highly ranked linebacker recruit, was the latest to join the highly touted group. Metcalf gave a verbal commitment to the Trojans late last week. As reported on USCfootball.com, Metcalf had this to say of his decision:

“Just going down there last weekend – I felt like it was the right place for me. I love the coaches, and I love how hype everything is. Things move fast at USC, and I like that. Everything is about competing and getting better.”

Metcalf, who also plays safety, is the ninth player to commit to USC’s 2009 class of which already includes five of Scout.com’s top 100 juniors.

Also on the list is the top-prospect of 2009, quarterback Matt Barkley of Mater Dei HS (the same high school that churned out record breakers Matt Leinart and Colt Brennan). Also committed following USC’s Junior Day on February 2nd are California standout receiver Devon Flournoy. Other listed as committed to the Trojans include: cornerback Randall Carroll, OL Kevin Graf, RB Patrick Hall, Safety .T.J. Mc Donald, tight end Morrell Presley and linebacker Marquis Simmons.
