The Bush/Lake Saga Thickens

What do you get when you mix a Heisman trophy winner, a convicted felon and an un-named gunman? : a media feeding-frenzy. But it’s just another day in the wacky case against Reggie Bush.

There was supposed to be a deposition today in the law-suit against former USC running back Reggie Bush. The key phrase here is: supposed to be. This past October Loyd Lake filed a law suit against Reggie Bush and his parents, seeking the repayment of some $291,600 for alleged cash, a vehicle and other goods that Lake allegedly gave the Heisman winner while he was still in college. In return Bush was supposed to sign with Lake’s fledging sports-marketing company. The deal fell through, and Lake was supposed to give the first deposition in San Diego this morning.

Only Lake walked out, refusing to talk.

Apparently he felt uneasy about the strange man with a gun that was staring at him from behind the glass window.

Why was a man with a gun watching Loyd Lake so intently? That depends who you ask. As reported by Brent Schrotenboer of San Diego’s Union Tribune, both Bush and Lake have different thoughts about the lone gunman. And so do their attorney’s.

Bush’s attorney, David Cornwell, says he hired the gunman as a bodyguard to protect Bush and himself from Loyd Lake, a convicted felon with gang ties.

Lake’s attorney, Brian Watkins, claims the gunman is a hired goon, there to intimidate Lake from giving his deposition.

Either way, security or threat, the result was the same: Lake walked out without giving the deposition.
