Aside from the occasional wayward pigskin sailing overhead across McClintock Avenue, there is hardly a trace of football in Southern California this time of year.

Yet as prognosticators and odds makers begin to look into their crystal balls to see who will be lifting the crystal ball in Miami 10 months from now, those kids inconspicuously playing catch behind the cardinal walls are once again predicted to be there.
