Why are Broncos eyeing Colbert?

Very surprising that the first wide receiver the Broncos brought in for a visit was Keary Colbert. A former second-round pick, Colbert was nothing short of a complete bust in Carolina.

After a decent rookie season, he struggled mightily. Colbert was given every chance to hold down a starting job opposite Steve Smith, but kept losing it to the likes of Keyshawn Johnson and Drew Carter. At one point, the team and fans bought into the theory that Colbert was playing with some leg problems and would be tremendously improved after surgery. It didn’t make a difference.

Colbert works hard, but he drops a lot of balls. He doesn’t have great size and has only very ordinary speed. What less could you want in a receiver?

The Broncos need a starter and Colbert’s not the answer. Denver has a tendency to adhere to old scouting reports. The Broncos thought very highly of Colbert coming out of USC. So did the Panthers. Look what they got out of him.
