
In the eight year span from 1962-1969 Toley’s teams won seven of the eight national championships.
George Toley, the former USC coach known as “the Father of Tennis” died Saturday at age 91 in Pasadena. As reported by CSTV, Toley one of the all-time greatest tennis coaches in collegiate history, led the Trojans to 10 NCAA team championships during his 27-year reign (1954-80). As a student at USC in 1940 and 1941, Toley was nationally ranked.
Nine of Toley’s players won the NCAA singles crown and 12 of his Trojan duos captured the NCAA doubles title. His teams won 82% of their dual matches…His pupils went on to win more than 400 national and international titles, Grand Slam events, and several were ranked No. 1 in the world.
