Pete Carroll goes Facebook

My coach is cooler than your coach. For damn sure. That’s because he’s the only BCS league coach with a facebook page. As according to SI.com’s Andy Staples, the page may give Carroll a leg up when it comes to recruiting.

Carroll’s Facebook page — created…by USC football Web site guru Ben Malcomson — is reason No. 347 why Carroll is light years ahead of his colleagues in connecting with the young men he coaches or hopes to coach.

Not that he uses the medium to actively recruit, because as Staples goes on to report, Carroll’s responding to some of the messages may violate NCAA rules. But the move shows that Carroll is in touch with today’s youth movements. Carroll knows there’s a good chance that most of his future players have facebook pages themselves, sending a message about his style and accessibility as a head coach.

Who knows…poke him…request him as a friend…challenge him to a game of scramble, maybe Carroll will end up your BFF 4ever.
