Weakside Linebaker Wanted

So the Maurice Simmons fiasco puts a slight damper on USC’s recruiting class. As unfortunate as the situation is, if Simmons is found guilty of armed robbery, its actually better for the Trojans that it occurred before he was enrolled. The last thing USC needs is another player-scandal. But worry not about filling the WLB position void. USC is already on top of that, offering a scholarship to Jelani Jenkins.

Rated 5-stars by Scout, Jenkins, Class of ’09 is a speedy weakside Linebacker/Running back, that knows how to pound it out on the field. Playing both sides of the game, Jenkins has the vision and smarts (4.0 GPA) allowing him to find holes on the line and read offensive plays for direction. Jenkins, who also has offers from Ohio State and Penn State, seemed most excited by the Trojans. As quoted on Yahoo Sports:

“I’m really excited about the Southern Cal one,” he said. “Obviously USC is a great school. As my coach described, that is about the best offer I can get. It’s a great honor. My family is real happy.”

The stats don’t lie. As Scout.com lists: Jenkins had 60 tackles, four sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and recovered two fumbles as a junior on defense. He also rushed for 791 yards and 16 touchdowns…Not too shabby for a single season.
