Despite the the NBA draft only hours away and the improper benefits scandal looming over his head, OJ Mayo has been breathing easy. Maybe that’s because, barring any cataclysmic happenings, by the end of the night he’ll have locked in his dream career (not to mention the millions of dollars that come with it). Or maybe it’s because the 6’5″ basketball prodigy is just a laid back guy off the court. With his constant drive for success, his superstar ability to create plays and his freshman average of 20.7 points, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 4.5 rebounds per game, Mayo will be an immediate impact player.

But even more impressive than his numbers is his attitude towards his school. In a USA Today interview, Mayo reflected on his maturation at USC. And in regards to all the negative controversy surrounding the school’s athletic department:

“Definitely one of the best things that happened to me was going to USC, so lay off the Trojans.”
