After USC’s 52-7 season-opening rout of Virginia, wide receiver Damian Williams told reporters with a slight, satisfied grin that he and Mark Sanchez had that coveted quarterback-receiver connection.

Whether the grin reflected Williams’ seven catches for 91 yards or his suggestion that a receiver making his first start for USC and a hobbled quarterback who had missed most of fall camp could already have a connection was anyone’s guess.
