Arizona Set USC’s Destiny on Course

1–2 minutes

It was seven years ago, on this very same Arizona field, that the Trojans’ destiny changed forever. In 2001, first-year head coach Pete Carroll and his Trojans were off to a dismal 2-5 start. After leading handedly, USC let the Wildcats come back and tie the game 34-34. Arizona had possession with just under two minutes to play. Things were looking bad; but USC cornerback Kris Richard was having none-of-it. Richard intercepted an Arizona pass, running 58 yards back for the winning touchdown. After that game Pete Carroll told his team: “We don’t have to lose anymore.” And the team took notice, going 79-10 ever since.

Once again Pete Carroll reminded this 2008 team, tonight’s game against Arizona is a championship game.
