USC football poll: Is Carroll committing a cardinal sin?

This might be USC coach Pete Carroll’s brashest move yet.

Despite the prospect of losing one timeout per half for breaking an NCAA rule, Carroll is having his team wear its cardinal home jerseys at UCLA on Saturday, reviving a rivalry tradition that seemingly ended in 1982.

Although it’s possible the NCAA will change the rule or grant USC a waiver, Carroll didn’t express much concern over potentially losing the timeouts, favoring fun over practicality.

Although USC is a prohibitive favorite, UCLA pulled the upset two years ago, and Stanford beat ‘SC as a bigger underdog in ‘07. It seems unlikely, but the Trojans might need those timeouts.

So we ask you:

**************

If it costs timeouts, is it worth it for USC to wear its cardinal jerseys at UCLA?

  • Yes. It’s only UCLA. ‘SC won’t need ’em

  • No. Ya never know what might happen

  • Only if it’ll boost ‘SC in the BCS standings
