USC will face Boston College in the first round of the NCAA tournament this Friday, March 20th. That’s good and bad news. During the season BC lost to some pretty terrible teams like Harvard and North Carolina State…Then again ‘SC lost to Stanford and Oregon State. But it’s not the teams that Boston lost to that’s most telling, it’s the teams they beat. Teams like #23 Florida State and #6 Duke and, uh…did I forget someone…oh yeah…#1 North Carolina.

The Trojans have the momentum coming in after a five game winning streak, beating two ranked teams and clenching the Pac-10 Championship. But Boston College will be thirsting for blood after losing to #9 Duke 66-65 in the ACC quarterfinals. USC has the big four with Gibson, Lewis, DeRozan and Hackett. The question is whether they can shut down Boston’s trio of Rice, Trapani and Sanders.

Senior point guard Tyrese Rice leads the team with 17.1 points per game and is an excellent free throw shooter. If the Trojans can control him without fouling him, they should have a good shot at the win. That is if they don’t dig themselves a giant hole to climb out of.

So get your office bracket pools going, find a comfortable spot on the sofa and be sure to buy some quality eyedrops, because you’re going to be watching basketball until your eyes bleed. I’m predicting a reenactment of Boston, cerca 1770. Yes, should be a good ol’ fashion Boston Massacre come Friday.
