** UPDATE **: A Tumblr service rep got back to me this morning with the following clarification:

Hello, all! I just wanted to clear up the mistaken impression that Tumblr is deleting or losing old blog posts. This is probably just an archive display bug or archive indexing bug. As a workaround, can use the search box on the Dashboard or manually edit archive URLs to reference older dates in order to find older posts.

I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support and feedback. I’ve passed this along to our development team to investigate.
