Check out the standout performers from Monday’s practice:

– Tight end Blake Ayles had the highlight play of the day when he stretched out for a one-handed catch on an over route before rolling to the ground near the left sideline during team period, drawing an ovation from the several hundred fans in attendance. “That was one of those, ‘Oh, I caught it!’” Ayles told his teammates after the play.

– On a play during team period, safety Josh Pinkard had a huge blindside hit on tight end Anthony McCoy, a blow that decleated the tight end. “He got me,” McCoy said while shrugging. “That’s six years of experience right there.”

– On one play during team period, tailback C.J. Gable laid a huge block on the blitzing defensive back to allow Matt Barkley time to compelte a 10-yard pass to Ronald Johnson down the left sideline. After the play, a smiling Barkley immediately went over and gave Gable a bear hug to show his gratitude.

– Joe McKnight had the ankle-breaking play of the day when he smoothly shifted directions, tripping up the pursuing linebacker on a run during one set of full-squad drills.

– Tailback Marc Tyler broke a long run around the right edge during team period.
