Trojan DePo: Barkley’s Lucky Break

1–2 minutes

1-2-3…that’s as many weeks as there are until kickoff. 1-2-3…that’s as many weeks Corp’s busted leg may take to heal according to Carroll, who added another week to the projected starter’s respite. What this means? If Corp is indeed out the full three weeks, it seems very unlikely he will get the start against San Jose State. That’s not too big a deal. That shouldn’t be the toughest game on the schedule and even a likely Barkley interception (or two) really shouldn’t set the Trojans back.

The big question is the following week, Ohio State. Will Corp have enough practice in the week leading up to the grudge match at the Shoe to command the most important college football game in the nation? Or will Carroll go with the momentum of USC’s circumstantial golden boy? College football is a whole another level from high school ball, and Ohio State’s Horseshoe stadium is a whole another level above your normal game day experience.

Could true freshman Barkley, having played only one mediocre team in his entire college career, march into one of the most chaotic arenas in the nation, in front of 103,000 screaming fans, against a team who in their last 47 non-conference home games has won 46-1, and pull off a miracle? Or will Barkley’s lucky break send the Trojans crashing on down?
