Aaron Corp thinks he’s ready to resume his role as USC’s starting quarterback. Coach Pete Carroll wants to see more.
Carroll has never been a big fan of running quarterbacks, but that’s different in Corp’s case. That’s part of Corp’s game, and without it Corp can’t play his style.
“That’s one part of it I want to see — that he’s confident in his ability to run and escape and all that,” Carroll told reporters after practice. “He’s never played when he wasn’t like that.”
True freshman Matt Barkley has continued to get the majority of first-team reps.
It would seem, considering the season opener against San Jose State is just over a week away, that Carroll will make a call on who will be the starter within the next couple of days. The Trojans play a mock scrimmage at the Coliseum on Saturday, and whoever sees the most time with the first-team offense almost certainly would be the starter against the Spartans.
And then we’ll see whether that guy is the starter again the following weekend at Ohio State.
By the way, the above link also has some interesting information about USC injuries and a shuffling along the offensive line and at defensive end.
