Stafon Johnson “Critical, but Stable”

Stafon Johnson is in critical, but stable condition, LA Times reports. USC’s leading scorer for the past two years has been in emergency surgery since about 2pm this afternoon. He was still in surgery at 7pm tonight. The injury stems from a freak bench press incident, where Johnson lost control of a 200+ pound weight that slipped and landed on his throat. Johnson was reportedly spitting up blood when he was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Johnson was being spotted by a Strength and Conditioning staff member at the time of the accident.

“I’ve seen players have the bar slip and fall onto their chest, but never in my 25 years of coaching have I heard of someone dropping a bar on their throat,” the Coach Carlisle said.

Get those Vs up, Trojans. Send prayers out to him.
