The Short Version: Historically the “winner” of each cycle is the one that steps in and bridges the chasm between early adopters and majority. Imagine Microsoft in that PC chasm and Google in the desktop internet chasm. Now analysts are projecting that we’re entering the chasm for mobile internet adoption.

Who will step into the breach and be the big winner? Apple, Microsoft and Google have spent billions trying to get there. But the same could have been said about earlier cycles, where the previous winners reinvested in the next cycle – and in those cases it was a new guy, not a previous winner, who stepped in to claim the biggest prizes.

So who’s going to win this next cycle? Game on.
