There’s no way you’re more sick of the whole “your online brand” talk than me. Still, I had to extract this truism from David Karp, by way of Fred Wilson’s post on personal brands in a digital world:
…the way to combat the unflattering photo of you is to “post lots of flattering ones.”
David’s a few years younger than I, so he’s still framing it around photos; I know people my age and older are thinking about how to keep photos of themselves offline altogether. While I’d caution that keeping your visage off the web is probably a longshot for anyone who didn’t participate in the Treadstone program, I’d posit that you don’t have to necessarily make your personal brand (I still cringe when I type it) about photos of you. It could be about photos you took, about images, video, or music you dig – it just has to be there, and be more interesting than those less-than-flattering pictures of you.
