USC coach Kevin O’Neill was in Saginaw, Mich., on Monday visiting point guard Maurice Jones but he also had an eye on what just happened this past season when he informed assistant coaches Phil Johnson and Gib Arnold they would not be retained next year.
The moves were expected within the program as neither assistant was given extensive duties. For example, Johnson handled scouting last season but did not handle it this season. Assistant coach Bob Cantu will be retained.
