Junior safety Drew McAllister did not participate in USC’s players-only passing session Tuesday but said he is close to returning from offseason hip surgery.
McAllister, who missed all of spring practice, is just starting to run and estimates he’ll be able to participate in 7-on-7 workouts “within a month.”
That would put him on track for training camp, where McAllister will try to make up ground on Jawanza Starling, whose impressive spring vaulted him to the top of the depth chart at strong safety.
McAllister said he had the same procedure as tailback Allen Bradford had in 2009. Bradford hasn’t had any hip flareups since.
