Tea Party Pushes ‘Repeal Any Law’ Amendment
Supporters of the new amendment would propose to give state legislatures the right to overturn any federal law with a 2/3 majority to repeal.
To be clear, that isn’t 2/3 of an individual state legislature, that’s 2/3 of all states. Which means that, under this scenario, votes by tiny states like Rhode Island would suddenly carry the same weight as those representing the millions in NY, TX or CA.
The proposal, also known as The Knee-Jerk Amendment, would need an approval by Congress…to limit their own power. So it seems unlikely, even if the proposal comes at a time when Congress’s approval ratings are at record lows.
