Here is a great article on the impact the Snoop Youth Football League has had on lower income areas in Los Angeles. Snoop Dogg is one of USC’s biggest supporters and some of the players from his league could be attending USC next year.

Crenshaw high school players De’Anthony Thomas aka The Black Mamba and Marcus Martin have already given solid verbal commitments to USC for the 2011 season. Thomas and Martin both played in Snoop’s league.

Here is what Snoop says of Thomas who is one of the best athletes in the 2011 recruiting class:

“He was a 12-year-old Pee Wee the first time I got a load of him. By him sticking with the script, we will see him playing on Saturdays and Sundays.”

Former USC linebacker and NFL Pro Bowler Willie McGinest is one of the leagues financial backers. Both Snoop and McGinest challenge the young players to excel on the field and in the classroom. McGinest tells all the players:

“Don’t limit yourself. If you can run a touchdown 80 yards, you can get an A in school. You can be a doctor or a lawyer, whatever you want.”
