Yesterday was the first day of spring practice. The new team motto painted on the practice field this year is “PREP NOT HYPE”.

Some players that missed practice were DE Kevin Greene (limited), S Josh Shaw (back), OT Nate Guertler (hamstring), QB Jesse Scroggins (hip), WR Robert Woods (ankle), TE Xavier Grimble (toe), Curtis McNeal (shoulder) and TE Junior Pomee.

Some players most likely to miss all of spring ball are CB Torin Harris (shoulder), DT Christian Heyward (shoulder), TE Christian Thomas (hip), P Kyle Negrete (shoulder), DE DeVante Wilson (knee) and OL Chad Wheeler (shoulder).

Coach Kiffin named WR George Farmer the MVP of the first day. He should get most of the first team reps with Robert Woods still recovering from offseason ankle surgery.

Kevin Graf will do his best Matt Kalil impersonation this spring at left tackle. Aundrey Walker lost 60 pounds and started at right tackle.

Cody Kessler and Max Wittek will duke it out again this spring to earn the backup QB spot.

Here are Kiffin and Barkley on the first day of spring practice.
