The John McKay Center is Officially Open

THROUGH THIS PORTAL ENTER THE WORLD’S GREATEST ATHLETES.

That is the engraving around the main entrance of USC’s brand new John McKay Center. The $70 million, 110,000-square foot facility was officially shown off to donors on Tuesday. Lots of pictures after the jump…

Here are details about the McKay Center:

The 60,000-square-foot basement includes weight room, athletic training room, locker rooms, a lounge and an indoor football field.

The 25,000-square-foot ground floor has a Student-Athlete Academic Services center, computer labs, reception area and outdoor courtyard.

The 25,000-square-foot second floor has all of the football coaches’ offices, football team meeting rooms, an outdoor patio and a state-of-the-art video production facility.

The McKay Center is adjacent to Heritage Hall, the Galen Dining Center, and the Brian Kennedy and Howard Jones Fields.

  1. Why is there Greek lettering on the arch when it was the Greeks that defeated Troy? Shouldn’t it be in Latin like the USC seal and the inscription on Tommy Trojan’s pedestal?

  2. “Sound Mind in a Sound Body.” Taken from the Aristotle quote, “Education is the process of creating sound mind in a sound body”
