Linebacker Luthur Brown did not practice because of back issues. He’s experienced back problems since his freshman year and underwent surgery. “We’re keeping him quiet,” USC coach Pete Carroll said. Brown’s absence could be significant because the other reserve middle linebacker, Chris Galippo, is out until October following back surgery.
