Los Angeles Angels trade Mike Napoli, Juan Rivera to Toronto Blue Jays for Vernon Wells
The Angels pick up one of the most feared contracts in Major League Baseball for two underrated (and most likely underpaid) pieces of the equation.
If Wells health follows the downward trend line you’d expect from a guy in his early 30’s, this will go down as one of the worst deals of the year. If he stays healthy the deal could work out to be a pleasant surprise for the Halos. But betting on Wells–who’s owed $86 million over the next four seasons–staying healthy is like betting on SEC fans not wearing jorts. Nothing like playing the upside, eh?
After spending most of 2010 counting their Crawfords before they were signed, Angel fans have a bitter pill to swallow in this deal.
