Are the 2005 Trojans the best college football team ever? Better than the 1972 team?
Some are quick to point out this years supposed weak defense, which still ranks #1 in the Pac-10 (a conference full of sophisticated offenses). And others forget that the defense rarely gets to rest when the offense scores so quickly, often in 3 plays or less.

I maybe a little late here, but Nebraska 1995 = best ever. That team averaged 52 points per game, beat 4 top ten teams by an average of over 30 points, and was never close to losing. No last-second touchdowns necessary at any point, and don’t blame the schedule either. 4 top ten teams. The Big 8 finished with half of the conference ranked in the top 10 (Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas State, Kansas). Charlie McBride made Steve Spurrier’s “sophisticated” offense look inept. Nebraska’s offense produced 53 “big plays” (25 yards or more), 24 of those scored touchdowns. That doesn’t include the Fiesta Bowl dismantling of the #2 Gators (otherwise, the totals would be higher).
Nope, USC has a nice team, but Nebraska in 1995 was never threatened, never taken to school by an offense that would later be more effectively shut down by Nevada (Fresno State, if you’re wondering).
