Our friends over at The M Zone bring us this…

Some dude in Louisiana is collecting donations to purchase billboard space on a high-traffic road near the USC campus in Los Angeles. We think the three panels on Hotel Figueroa across from the Staples Center would make for the perfect media buy, but we’re talking about some dumbass from the swamp that’s probably never been to LA.

Anyways, what he wants to put up is a one-peat billboard because he’s never heard of a split national championship.

The M Zone brings up a good point:

Because trying to raise ten grand, particularly in Louisiana at this time, just to put up some billboard to compensate for some perceived slight is crazy.

And we’d like to add that Matt Leinart was hardly even recruited back in 2001. Reggie Bush and LenDale White were from USC’s 2003 recruiting class. Since then…

USC pulled the #1 recruiting class in 2004

USC pulled the #1 recruiting class in 2005

USC is closing in on the #1 recruiting class for 2006

The dynasty is well underway… what USC has done so far was because of a mix of talent and smarts. Now USC could rely on pure athleticism just like some Big 12 teams and the Florida schools. But we’d still like to see USC beat the pants off people with sophisticated schemes and always going for the jugular — especially on 4th down.

Pete Carroll has things going well on the left coast, but the BCS results choose the real national champion in college football. LSU was the winner of national championship in 2003, not USC. It was only because of some ignorant sportswriters from both east and west coast, who have their biases against the south that USC was given a token national championship by AP poll.
These are some of the same writers who gave Reggie Bush the heisman by such a large margin. I had no problem with Bush winning, he’s an excellent player, but by that margin?!?!? Come on! Reggie against Vince young in the Rose bowl looked like a little boy playing against a grown man. USC and Reggie were quite simply overmatched by the overall brilliance of vince young and Texas.

I was just about to say that the billboard story was the saddest thing I’ve every read…

But then Darrell decided to come into our lives. You see, Darrell, or more appropriately, you idiot, there’s this organization called the AP. They’ve been deciding national champions since the middle of the depression, and they’ll still be deciding them long after the BCS mess is cleaned up. Let’s all remember that LSU lost to Florida in 2003, sharing its final record with USC and several other teams. While it was obvious to the rest of the world who was the better team, the computer rankings (which now have been changed) thought differently. One team got to beat Oklahoma and the other got to beat Michigan. In college football, you idiot, when there’s a split like that, the two teams have always, always, always shared the national title.

If you want to knock the AP’s “token national championship” then I guess we’ll have to take away LSU’s only other title from 1958. That still leaves USC with more championships, you idiot.

And, since when have sportswriters been biased against the south? How many times do we have to hear about how strong SEC defenses are? How the hell does a Big East team run all over Georgia in a bowl game when the SEC is supposed to have an iron curtain?

You dumbass.

You won’t see a true Longhorn fan dissing USC’s shared national title 2 seasons ago…our third title in 1970 was shared as well. Hook’em.

I have to say that i am a Longhorn, and actually moved to austin from Baton Rouge(LSU). It is funny, but like Kevtuck said, we Longhorns know what it is like to share a title. I think the billboard is a scam anyway.

If the BCS official website lists 2003 as a split title year, then LSU fans need to get over it already. The Tigers and the Trojans split the national championship – over, done, finished.

You know, its funny. I dont remember USC playing in that years championship game. Hey heres an idea. How about playing a decent team every once in a while. Its easy to feel bad ass when you beat up on teams like Oregon State and Washington. But according to Matt Leinart you guys were the best team this year. Good luck with your 4-pete next year.

So, we all come back from celebrating MLK day to find LSU propaganda polluting our beloved trojanwire? Now, I think we can all agree that sensible LSU fans are some of the best in the nation and they have a solid team…but a handful of ignorant nuts are starting to drive me…nuts.

Because I’m not a coward, I visited the lsuoverusc site. Of course, as LSU nuts would want you to believe, he starts his argument by assuming that the AP Poll is a meaningless survey (in secret conjunction with USC) created in 1998 as part of the BCS. For the last time, you idiot, the flawed computer rankings (requiring tweaks every year) have only been around for 8 of the 130+ years that we’ve been deciding national champions. It’s always been based on polls, not accountants. The AP Poll, in existence since 1936, has been the perennial standard when it comes to crowning the champion. We decided to allow the #1 and #2 teams to play each other, in part to make more money for ABC and the conferences, but also to “end” the debate of who deserves it. We didn’t, however, decide to abandon the notion of a SHARED national championship. The debate with that LSU nut starts and ends with this notion. You really need to get over it. It’s making you look like a pussy.

The effort to “end” the debate, though, has only produced an environment of increased debate. But that’s the point. College football is all about the debate. My school is better than yours because I went there. My team could kick your team’s ass because my penis is bigger. We both live and breathe our school colors, and no pathetic billboard will change that.

Of course us Trojans wanted to play the Tigers in the Sugar Bowl that year. Both our schools knew that Oklahoma’s Sooners were nothing more than charlatans deserving of an ass-kicking. Both our schools got a chance, in consecutive years, of revealing just how fake that Sooner team was. We should both be happy, after this Martin Luther King weekend, of sharing a place in college football history.

Can’t we all just get along?

I’ve never seen a AP national title trophy, can someone post a link? I find it also funny that when LSU won the BCS title in 2003, Mr. Leinart wore shirt that said “Fu## the BCS” on it. Odd, he sure seemed happy with the BCS when he was holding up that trophy. I never saw any Auburn players wearing a shirt like that. Anyway, congragulations for winning 1.5 controversial titles.

Split National Championships are going to occur until we have a playoff. Just becuase USC shared championships in 2003 and 2004 doesn’t mean they aren’t legit.

I’m glad AP decided to stop proclaiming a football champ in 2004. They should be reporting news, not making news. I don’t think they should have polls in the year either.

They have one title!!!! When all the schools signed the agreement with the BCS it says they decide who the national champion is. The last time i checked LSU has that title. So its hard to be a dynasty with one title!!! Maybe they should pay a few more players!!!!!
