Saints accept blessing from God

No passing on the greatest future running back of all-time, New Orleans scored Reggie Bush. Good thing too. A better team and playing home games on astroturf will acclimate Reggie Bush to his NFL potential that much quicker.

  1. I don’t know if Reggie is going to be the greatest running back of all time but the Texans did blow it. Either pick Bush or trade the pick and get a bunch of defensive guys. Mario will probably become a good, maybe even great player, but he is just one guy on a defense that needs a lot of help.

  2. I’m a Trojan alum who unfortunately lives in New Orleans (it’s for law school, definately not permanently), and I constantly get shit from LSU fans (who don’t know how to even spell Go) and Texas fans. Everywhere I go wearing my Cardinal and Gold, some native New Orleanian has the nerve to talk shit about USC. It is only fitting, sweet irony that all these Tigers and Longhorns fans now must put all their faith in a Trojan if they want to win at all this year. FIGHT ON!!!

  3. come on Bunch and Rmac you must be high. best r-back ever? I went to SC and support him but come on. Maybe best ever on the best offensive team ever, a great role player in a system. There is a system, that’s why Norm passed on Matt he knows how the system plays to the strenghts of the offense (arm strength?) .If you take away the fresno st. run he is very impressive and worthy of his draft status but r-backs very rarely live up to the hype curtis enis, rashan salam, lawrence phillips, cedric Benson, Ron Dayne, to name a few. Those backs all had similar stats (and heisman winners/hopefuls)without the supporting cast to open up the holes and running calls. One more thing your claim about playing on astro-turf being beneficial to Bush is ludicrous, when his ankle or knee is caught under the 350lb pro lineman it does not give like grass. Lets be honest it is over we had our reign but Leinart and Bush are not going to revolutionize the league (Saints and Cardinals?). If so Lawrence Phillips and Tommy frazier would not be in jail or selling home loans. Great at running a website but the next Mel Kiper Jr. come on 🙂 Just talkin a little shit from sunny SD.

  4. For all those people who think that Norm Chow passed on Leinart, get a grip. He was arguing for Leinart until the end. It was Floyd Reese who was quoted as saying he prayed all night on his knees and that God told him that Vince Young would be a better player so he picked him over the objection of the coaches. I never knew God had such a high opinion of Titans football that he granted guidance to Floyd Reese.

  5. Reggie Bush will be this decade’s Raghib Ismail. Luckily, they are still playing football in Canada so your prediction may still come true…just not in this country.

  6. While I didn’t personally write the “greatest future running back of all-time” line, there is no evidence to suggest anything to the contrary about him right now. Comparing him to Rocket is just moronic.

Dude, I hear your argument, and really only time will tell on that one….I agree, the system could not have hurt him. But it wasn’t the system that made him do what he did to Fresno State, or jump over that tackler against Notre Dame.

But the reason I’m most excited about what Reggie COULD do in the pros is how little he fucked up while he was at SC (on the field; obviously hindsight and shady sports agents tell us otherwise off the field). Outside of the ill-fated lateral he tried to throw at the Rose Bowl, when did you see Reggie do anything stupid/wrong/bad?

I’ll admit, there is a CHANCE that we may be wrong about the best running back of all-time talk….but at this point, short of the Dude, I haven’t heard any of you make effective/valid points as to why he WON’T be.

And while we’re at it, can we talk about who he’s actually fighting with for this crown? Is the best ever O.J.? Is it Jim Brown? Is it Barry Sanders? Is it Marshall Faulk?

Just trying to figure out who it is that you think Reggie COULDN’T be better than?

Did you guys watch the same games I did? Reggie got some great blocks…as plenty of others have.

But how many people have you seen do what Reggie did over the past 3 seasons? The flips, the jukes, the moves?

  7. Bunch no doubt that Reggie’s moves resemble some sort of secret player jukes in Madden. Pure nastiness but sometimes trying to get nasty will put you on the IR. or on the Vikings love boat tour.

As for best ever Walter Payton. That guy had no line, no pro bowlers like Eric Dickerson and made people look stupid. I would have to say he was the man. Sweetness RIP.

  8. Why is comparing him to Raghib moronic but comparing him to Gale Sayers, Jim Brown, Sanders, Payton, etc. perfectly valid? As of today he’s much closer to the former than the latter. That might piss you off but that doesn’t make it any less true. Homeritis and nothing more. Eventually you’ll grow out of it.

At this point how about any running back who has played a single down in the NFL? Is that a good enough start? If not then how about any running back period? Remember, Bush is a slash. He has yet to qualify in any category. Same with Young in case you’re wondering.

As for the best ever why don’t you wait til he breaks the 10k yard plateau before you waste those brain cells.

  9. Message to Stal……Law School, LSU?….uhhhhmmmm,I know how to make seafood 50 different ways, hello Forrest Gump. NO-ONE goes to LSU to study Law, (unless you go in the 10th Round of the NFL DRAFT)…ROFLMAO~
    Rodeo~

Pezman — you continue to impress us all with your thorough command of both the game of football and the English language.

Thanks for the correction — we thought Reggie had 7 years worth of NFL stats already. Thank God you were here to clarify so eloquently that “Bush is a slash”.

Please come back again….I can’t wait to hear what you have to say next.

  11. pezman–

first and foremost — i don’t remember Raghib Ismail being a finalist for the Heisman in his sophomore season, before winning it in his junior year?

and 1 week after the NFL draft, it doesn’t appear that Reggie is going to sign with a CFL team.

so right there, your raghib comparison just shows you have, at best, a loose command of football history.

now, if you wanted to compare reggie to say, Jason White, maybe you could make somewhat of an apt comparison. Or Ty Detmer. You’d still round like a raving idiot, and wouldn’t find anyone who’d agree with you….but at least you’d be comparing guys who walked down a somewhat similar path to Reggie.

Rocket was a joke, and that’s why he ran away to Canada.

  12. A loose command of football history? That must be why I mentioned Canadian football in my OP. Maybe after you work out the intricacies of capitalization you can work on reading comprehension.

Right now Bush is closer to Raghib who was also a phenom, freakish game breaker, fastest man on the planet, etc. who did what? Turn into a crappy commentator on Game Day? I certainly don’t remember.

Ty Detmer? Jason White? Why the hell would I compare a halfback/slot to quarterbacks? Especially to two horrible athletes? You remember watching Detmer get both shoulders separated in the Holiday Bowl? I do so surely you do as well.

No, I don’t expect to find people agreeing with me. Particularly here. I did, however, expect to see a few homers have conniption fits. And thanks for that service, Max. It took me a while to find that archive link though.

Are you sure you want to lecture in public on football history? You know what they say about remaining quiet and thought a fool….
