Representatives of the NFL will meet with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa tonight and with Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle tomorrow.
But a hasty push by the Coliseum Commision to sign the NFL as its major tenant has a battle brewing.
So who has the leverage?
USC:
– could deny 10,000 on-campus parking spaces for the NFL gamedays
– could move to another venue (possibly building its own stadium)
NFL:
– promised $800 million in state-of-the-art refurbishment
– at least half of beer sales would go to the Coliseum Commission
Since USC’s “sweet deal” is destined to renegotiated in 2007 anyways, there is little advantage between resigning USC or signing a new lease agreement with the NFL.
