From the southern end of the Patchouli Belt:

Look no further than USC’s 28-21 struggle to beat an Arizona State team at home that both Cal and Oregon creamed to confirm that the Bears should not only beat the Trojans in five weeks — they should crush them.

Make no mistake, we do not take the Bears lightly, but c’mon. Crush USC? You got to be kidding.

Let’s Start Talking About Them Trojans [The Daily Californian]

  1. It’s amazing how quickly the Bears fans have forgotten their humiliating and conference-disgracing loss to Tennessee. There is no team that has less reason to be arrogant than these clowns.

But, hey, if they want to take us lightly, all the better.

  2. The graveyards of Sports Writing are littered with the bleached bones of snarky little “sports authorities” that use this type of flawed logic. But I’ll give the communist the benefit of the doubt and use his reasoning.

Take a ride with me why don’t you? May it Please the Court.

    1) Cal got SMOKED by Tennessee. Embarrassed. Close your children’s eyes ugly. It was bad.

    2) Tennessee was beaten by Florida. A good game but a loss nonetheless.

    3) Florida was recently beaten by Auburn (Do you see where this is going yet?)

    4) Auburn was destroyed by the upstart Arkansas…

    5) Arkansas was embarrassed (not nearly as embarrasing as a Tenn-Cal game) by USC.

Therefore, ladies and gentlemen of the jury and members of bizarro land (also know as Northern California, USC should “crush” Cal on November 18.

In conclusion, Cal Bears fans, writers, and comrades should stop using stupid stupid flawed logic hypos and wait for the game.

  3. Okay, let me get this straight. The Trojans should get smoked by Cal because, among other things, SC “struggled” to win against an ASU squad that got whupped on by Oregon and Cal? So what, then, are we to deduce about this weekend’s games? Oregon LOST (not “struggled” to win) to Wazzu!!!!! Cal needed overtime to beat a team that SC “struggled” to beat in regulation!!!! I understand though. SC has so dominated the Pac-10 in recent years that the rest of the conference needs to say whatever is necessary to try to get an edge. The results end up being the same, no matter what they dream up.
