The Trojans no longer control their own destiny.
Their fate now rests with what happens in the Big East (often referred to as the Big Least).
Undefeated West Virginia will play undefeated Louisville. Undefeated Rutgers will play both West Virginia and Louisville. So the Trojans need Rutgers to beat the victor of West Virginia/Louisville, and lose to the loser of West Virginia/Louisville.
If that happens, the Trojans have such a difficult schedule ahead that if they finish strong and win out, they can state their case for playing in the national championship game.
Of course the Big Least scenario seems highly unlikely. And others may think that USC winning out is even more unlikely. But until there is a college playoff, we’d love to see the BCS dealt a bunch of 1-loss contenders like USC, Texas, Florida, Auburn and either Michigan or Ohio State.
